RSLC Statement on Pennsylvania Primary
Washington D.C.— Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Dee Duncan released the following statement in response to tonight’s primary results in Pennsylvania:
“The RSLC could not be more excited about the fantastic slate of state legislative candidates Republicans nominated tonight to continue countering Joe Biden and the disastrous policies coming out of Democrat-controlled D.C. While national liberals have spent recent weeks trying to lower expectations in the Keystone State, we know full well that they are going to spare no expense to come after our razor-thin majorities in the state House and Senate, and we are prepared for the fight ahead. The Republican-led legislature is the last line of defense against Democrats who want to hike taxes, impose devastating energy policies, weaken law enforcement, and turn Pennsylvania into the next California. The RSLC is committed to ensuring that never happens.”
Background
Earlier this year, the RSLC named Pennsylvania a top defensive priority for the committee in 2022.
National Democrats earlier this cycle were prioritizing Pennsylvania as “extremely vulnerable” but in recent weeks have tried to “lower expectations” about their ability to flip state legislative chambers in the state.
The RSLC earlier in 2022 conducted a survey in Pennsylvania that found:
Legislative Republicans were leading on generic ballot by six points (48-42).
Elected Republicans in the state legislature were the most popular person/group tested.
Biden had a net-negative image of 16 points (40-56).
Only 36% of voters wanted the state legislature to support Washington’s policies compared to 46% who wanted the state legislature to push back on Washington.
