RSLC RENEWS CALL FOR NEW YORK STATE DEMOCRATS TO HOLD CUOMO ACCOUNTABLE
“As it relates to next steps, that’s entirely up to the governor and or the assembly” – New York Attorney General Letitia James
Washington, DC — After New York Attorney General Letitia James today confirmed that Governor Andrew Cuomo violated both federal and state laws by sexually harassing eleven women, including nine current and former state government employees, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) today renewed its call for New York’s Democrat-led legislature to hold him accountable for his egregious actions.
“Enough is enough. New York State Democrats have for months allowed a sex offender to lead one of the most populous states in the country because it was politically inconvenient for them to do the right thing and hold him accountable,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “Not only have they enabled a sexual predator, they have also stood by Governor Cuomo as he caused thousands of unnecessary nursing home deaths and tried to cover up those statistics — all while profiting off the pandemic. The cowardice of New York state Democrats is the only reason Andrew Cuomo is still running New York, and they should be held accountable at the ballot box in 2022 for failing to act earlier and enabling the leader of their party to stay in power.”
Amid Governor Cuomo’s mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic and mounting sexual assault allegations, the RSLC in March conducted a survey that found 65% of Independents across 14 key state Senate and state Assembly districts would be less likely to support a Democrat legislator if they learned they were standing by Governor Cuomo. Multiple Democrats in the legislature are already on record saying impeachment “would be appropriate if he (Cuomo) chooses not to step down himself.”
