Republican Groups Invest Seven Figures to Launch Michigan Absentee and Early Vote Program

Washington, D.C. – In collaboration with Michigan Freedom Network, the Republican State Leadership Committee PAC (RSLC PAC) is launching an absentee and early voting (AB/EV) program in targeted state House races across Michigan in an effort to retake the chamber and help Republican candidates up-and-down the ballot get across the finish line in November. This effort is backed by a massive seven-figure investment that will put Republicans in a strong position to challenge the Democrats’ vote-by-mail advantage this year and in future election cycles.

Republicans expect that the 2024 election will be decided by a razor-thin margin just as it was in 2020 and 2022 in the Great Lakes State. This absentee and early vote effort will help to expand the Republican voting base by targeting low-propensity voters and engaging Republicans in the AB/EV process sooner than ever before to ensure that conservatives have the ability and resources to cast their vote in the manner that works best for them.

“We saw how effective a robust absentee ballot and early voting program can be in Virginia in 2023, and with the promising results we’ve seen from our mail-in voting program during the primary election this year in Pennsylvania, we decided it was time to bring the same program to the critical battleground state of Michigan. If Republicans are going to win up-and-down the ballot in November it is imperative that Michiganders take advantage of early and absentee voting so that we know the score heading into Election Day and can strategically target voters down the final stretch heading into November 5th.” -RSLC PAC President Dee Duncan

"The stakes couldn’t be higher this year as Michigan’s hardworking men and women are being crushed by inflation driven by Democrats, our families are rightly afraid of crime in their neighborhood, and our students are trapped in failing schools by adults who are more interested in protecting their own interests than those of our kids. We are excited to join with the RSLC PAC in this unprecedented effort to win Michigan and start putting our state back on track." – Michigan Freedom Network Executive Director Sarah Anderson

One component of this multi-pronged effort is a website that will offer voters the opportunity to join the mail-in voting list for 2024, ensuring they will receive a ballot in both the primary and general elections. Michigan voters can go to skipthelinemi.vote to learn how to join the annual mail-in voter list.

Background

In 2023, the RSLC launched Secure Your Vote Virginia in conjunction with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC to raise awareness to the early and absentee voting process. From our target universe we generated a 26% increase in absentee ballot requests from 2021 and a 32% increase in absentee ballot returns. In total, between AB/EV, we secured 26% of our target universe turnout goal heading into Election Day and converted twice as many low-propensity voters as we had set out to do. The effort also helped to lift the burden of election day by engaging voters sooner than ever before. Among our target universe, we banked 34% of our vote goal prior to election day, a 12% increase when compared to Republican voters who were not included in our target universe. With the help of Governor Youngkin and his Spirit of Virginia PAC, we successfully increased AB/EV by 5.5% when compared to 2021.
