RSLC Statement: Minnesota Republicans Flip Seats, Restore Check and Balance in St. Paul
Washington D.C.- The $4.5 million investment made by Democrats in Minnesota could not stop Republicans from breaking Democrat one-party rule in Minnesota.
“With Republicans flipping seats in house races across Minnesota and breaking out of the Democrat trifecta, voters made it clear they want Minnesota House Republicans to serve as a check and balance in St. Paul,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “From implementing tax hikes and draining the state’s surplus, the Democrat DFL showed they will pursue an agenda that leaves Minnesota families behind when they have complete control. We knew that national liberal groups like the DLCC would spend heavily to keep their House majority, which is why the RSLC invested early and focused on top-of-mind issues that matter to Minnesotans. Congratulations to House Republican Leader Lisa Demuth and Minnesota Republicans for defying expectations and delivering strong Republican victories.”
National liberal groups such as the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC), The States Project, and others made clear their goal was to defend their majority in the House. Here is a breakdown of spending from national liberal groups:
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee: $1.16 million
The States Project: $1.45 million
Forward Majority PAC: $793,000
To combat the onslaught of spending from national outside groups that were eyeing one of our top target states this cycle, Minnesota was included in the RSLC’s historic $38 million early investment which spanned across 21 states. Not only was investing in Minnesota early a priority but also messaging on top-of-mind issues that matter to Minnesota voters. Over the summer, the RSLC launched its ‘Republican Roadmap’ series, which spotlighted the bleak economic policies that have caused inflation and the weak crime policies backed by national and state Democrats that have burdened Minnesotans. While Minnesota Democrats have left their constituents behind, state Republicans have focused on tax relief and stronger public safety plans for their communities. In the RSLC’s ‘Left’s Most Wanted’ paid media campaign, which ran during the final weeks of the election cycle up until Election Day, the RSLC targeted state Democrats for their failed records in St. Paul that have burdened Minnesota residents.
