RSLC Statement: Maine Republicans Defy Expectations, Flip Seats in Both Chambers of the State Legislature
Washington, D.C. – Maine Republicans defied expectations to make gains in the state legislature for the first time since 2020.
“Maine voters sent a clear message that they want more Republican legislators in Augusta, chipping away at the Democrat-stronghold in the legislature,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “Even in deep blue states like Maine, voters are rejecting the Democrats’ failed liberal policies and want Republicans who will back commonsense legislation to keep communities safe and lower the cost of living. Congratulations to Maine Republicans for their resounding victories.”
Earlier this year, the RSLC released a memo detailing the plan to strategically weaken Democratic strongholds and continue building on its past successes of growing Republican caucuses in deep blue states. To combat the hefty investment from national outside groups, the RSLC invested over $1 million in Maine’s state legislative races.
