RSLC Statement: Arizona Republicans Flip Seats, Expand Majorities in Legislative Chambers
Washington, D.C. – Arizona Republicans overcame at least $9.7 million in national liberal spending to gain seats and expand their majority.
“Republicans’ strong performance shows Arizona voters want more Republicans in the state legislature to continue promoting commonsense legislation and reject the extreme policies of the left,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “While national liberal groups like the DLCC viewed Arizona as an opportunity to ‘make a play for the majority’ and Katie Hobbs wanted to change the political landscape in the legislature, Arizona voters made it clear Republicans have been focused on issues that matter to them, such as border security, education, and the economy, which is why they rewarded them accordingly by expanding their strength in the legislature. From investing early to messaging on issues that voters care about, the RSLC is proud to have helped Arizona Republicans secure these critical wins. Congratulations to Arizona Republicans on a tremendous victory.”
National liberal groups like the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, Forward Majority, The States Project, and others made it clear the Arizona House and Senate were top targets to flip blue. Here is a breakdown of the spending from national liberal groups:
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee: $1 million
The States Project: $6.3 million
Forward Majority: $2.2 million
To combat the hefty investment from national outside groups that were eyeing one of our top targets this cycle, Arizona was included in the RSLC’s historic $38 million early investment which spanned across 21 states.
Over the summer, the RSLC and its affiliated PACs launched its “Republican Roadmap Series,” in key battleground districts, highlighting the detrimental impact of the border crisis created by the Biden-Harris administration and how state Republicans have had to take unprecedented action to secure the border.
In the RSLC’s ‘Left’s Most Wanted’ paid media campaign which ran during the final weeks of the election cycle up until Election Day, the RSLC targeted specific Democrat candidates once again in battleground districts where our focus was defending and expanding GOP majorities, by highlighting the left’s failed record on issues that matter to voters.
