RSLC President Responds to Biden’s Failed Response to Skyrocketing Crime

“When you decrease funding, you increase crime.”

Washington, DC — Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Dee Duncan released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s address today on rising crime across the country.

“Liberal cities across the country are facing an eruption in violent crime, which is a direct result of the radical defund the police movement that President Biden has enabled. The President’s hollow remarks today were nothing short of an attempt to paper over the grim consequences of Democrats’ anti-law enforcement agenda. Cutting police budgets and stripping law enforcement officers of protection is reckless and creates a toxic environment for families and businesses. When you decrease funding, you increase crime. While Democrats continue to demonize law enforcement, state Republicans are working to support our brave police officers who put their lives on the line to uphold the law, keep the peace, and to protect all of us every single day.”

BACKGROUND

  • While Biden claims to support law enforcement, he has refused to denounce the national Democrats that continue to call to abolish the police.

  • Many liberal cities like New York, Baltimore, Oakland, Los Angeles, and others are now even “restoring money to their police departments” after their cuts to law enforcement led to rising crime.

  • Despite this about-face from Democrat cities regarding defunding the police, many liberal-led states are still pushing an anti-law enforcement agenda, with legislation that will make it easier to sue police officers and destroy their livelihoods.

  • The Democrats’ anti-law enforcement legislative agenda in the states is leading to a recruiting crisis across the country for police officers.
