RSLC-JFI Statement: Conservatives Joseph Deters, Dan Hawkins and Megan Shanahan Elected to Ohio Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Conservatives Joseph Deters, Dan Hawkins, and Megan Shanahan were elected to the Ohio Supreme Court tonight. Their victories now give Republicans a 6-1 advantage on the bench in Columbus.

“The RSLC’s Judicial Fairness Initiative was proud to invest in all three of the state Supreme Court races Ohio Republicans won tonight, and we congratulate Joseph Deters, Dan Hawkins and Megan Shanahan on their victories,” said RSLC-JFI President Dee Duncan. “This is a big win for upholding the rule-of-law and a blow to liberals like Eric Holder who seek to use the court to influence processes like redistricting. Ohioans made a strong statement tonight that will keep the court under Republican control for years to come.”

The Republican State Leadership Committee’s Judicial Fairness Initiative launched a nearly one-million-dollar independent expenditure campaign in support of Deters, Hawkins and Shanahan in the final days of the cycle that included a $600,000 investment on television advertising alone.

ABOUT RSLC

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is the largest organization of Republican state leaders in the country and only national committee whose mission is to recruit, train, and elect Republicans to multiple down-ballot, state-level offices. Thanks to our growing network of grassroots supporters in all 50 states, we help deliver wins for Republican state legislators, lieutenant governors, secretaries of state, agriculture officials, and state judges across the country.

ABOUT JFI

Led by Barack Obama and Eric Holder, Democrats are fighting to transform the traditional role of the judiciary from an arbiter of the facts and the law to an advocate for the liberal political agenda. The RSLC’s Judicial Fairness Initiative (JFI) is the only national political effort focused exclusively on halting this transformation by protecting the election and selection of state court judges. JFI provides critical information about judicial candidates in an environment where voters are routinely left in the dark about a candidate’s qualifications for the bench. JFI fills that gap by providing the facts and analysis voters need to cast informed votes for judicial office. Since its formation, JFI has raised and spent more than $19.3 million in states across the country, including Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. JFI has previously been engaged in races supporting Justice Brian Hagedorn and Justice Dan Kelly.
