New Video: 60 Democrats Wanted Gas to Be Even More Expensive

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As Mainers planning to travel this Memorial Day Weekend will experience a whopping 58% increase in gas prices since last year, the RSLC released a new video today reminding them that 60 Democrats in the Maine Legislature supported a 2019 bill that would have made gas 40 cents more expensive.

“If Maine Democrats in the Legislature had their way, gas prices would be 40 cents higher for their constituents trying to travel this Memorial Day weekend. This issue will be a major liability for Democrats in 2022, as Mainers know that lowering gas prices means voting for Republican state legislators in November.” -RSLC National Press Secretary Stephanie Rivera.

The video also comes on the heels of a stunning report from the Bangor Daily News early this week, which noted that “Maine residents kept their homes at unsafe temperatures more than those in any other U.S. state over the past year” as a result of the increase in cost for home heating oil. The 2019 gas tax bill would have made home heating oil prices more expensive.
