Democrats' Lockdown Experiment Leads to Unprecedented Learning Loss
Washington, D.C. – We knew Democrats' lockdowns damaged children's educational development, now we are finally seeing just how bad the damage is. The clearest picture on pandemic learning loss to date was revealed Sunday as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as the "Nation's Report Card," released the first round of student testing data for math since 2019. The test results from students in 4th and 8th grade showed the largest drop in math scores in history as students regressed to 1992 levels.
The results are damning for Democrats who sided with their teachers’ union donors to extend lockdowns and remote learning. There is a clear correlation between states who had Democrat leadership that implemented long-term remote learning and those seeing a large setback in math test scores.
The data also showed states with Republican-led Legislatures who rejected lockdowns and empowered parents limited the learning loss and saw their test scores rise to the best in the country.
NAEP Data shows:
10 of the 12 states with the largest learning loss for 4th grade had Democrat-led or split controlled Legislatures
11 of the 17 states with the largest learning loss for 8th grade had Democrat-led or split controlled Legislatures
13 of the 15 states with the least amount of learning loss for 4th grade had GOP-led Legislatures
4 of the 5 states with the least amount of learning loss for 8th grade had GOP-led Legislatures
12 of the 14 states above the national average for 4th grade test results had GOP-led Legislatures
10 of the 15 states above the national average for 8th grade test results had GOP-led Legislatures
“Democrats who stood arm-in-arm with teachers' unions to keep kids out of the classroom own this historic setback,” said RSLC Communications Director Andrew Romeo. “Thankfully, state Republicans led the fight to get kids back in the classroom. The Republican Party is and will continue to be the party for parents and educational achievement.”
