Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Joins RSLC's Podcast to Discuss Broadening the Appeal of the GOP in 2022 and Beyond

Washington, DC —As the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) ramps up its efforts to recruit, train, and support more diverse candidates who embody their communities in 2022, the committee today released a new podcast episode featuring Right Leaders Network Advisory Council Member and Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson. On this new episode of “It’s Bigger Than You Think,” Hinson explains why more conservative women need to run for office, how being a mom has helped her effectively serve her community, and why women candidates have a unique opportunity to lead on pocketbook issues like rising prices.

Hinson’s insights in this latest episode will also be shared with the women candidates the RSLC is supporting in 2022 through its Right Leaders Network, a redoubling of the committee’s long-standing efforts to do its part to grow the Republican Party with more women and minority candidates and elected officials. Hinson also participated in a Right Leaders Network panel discussion in October featuring five former state legislators who went on to serve in federal office. The full panel can be viewed HERE and a highlight video can be viewed HERE.

“It’s Bigger Than You Think,” which is released bi-weekly and is available on SpotifyAnchoriTunes, and Youtube, contains in-depth discussions with current and former state Republicans, national thought leaders, and top political strategists about the outsized impact state government has on the everyday lives of all Americans.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Hinson on why Republican women concerned about the future of the country should run for office:

“Having a variety of perspectives in Congress is very important, a variety of backgrounds, and I think women have a lot to add to that conversation. I've had the opportunity in several cases to have conversations with some of my colleagues and actually change their minds and say hey here's my perspective as a woman in the workplace, as a mom, and I think adding that extra context is what our founding fathers really would have wanted to see, right?"

Hinson on what she would say to women who are nervous about taking the leap to run for office:

“I would say step up and run. First of all, I think everybody always wants to come up with an excuse, right? Oh, well now is not a good time because well, I'd say either one, let's eliminate the because and let's try and get it to a place where you can step up and run... There's never really a good time to do anything in life, right? It's you just have to take those risks and be willing to jump for what you think is important."

Hinson on how being a mom has helped her stay in touch with the issues in her community as an elected official:

“I'm a mom with a minivan, right? So I'm a per ounce grocery shopper, I go in, and when I look at the tags in the store, I'm looking at the cost per ounce. So I know what inflation does in a working family's budget. I know what is going into my grocery cart and what it cost a year ago versus what it costs now."

Hinson on how initiatives to make the GOP a big tent party, such as the Right Leaders Network, ensure the party will have a strong future:

“We are the opportunity party because where else in the world can you have a chance at that true American dream? Where eventually you might be able to be the one serving the voices of your community."
