RLGA Announces Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez as Chairman
WASHINGTON, D.C – The Republican Lieutenant Governors Association (RLGA), a caucus of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), today announced that Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez will serve as the committee’s chairman for the 2021 election cycle. In her previous role as vice-chair of the RLGA Executive Committee, Nuñez helped the RSLC shatter fundraising records, which paved the way for Republicans to deliver key victories, including in North Carolina and Utah. Her leadership in her home state also assisted in increasing Republican majorities in both of Florida's legislative chambers.
“In 2020, our team played a crucial role shaping the future of America in key lieutenant governor races from North Carolina to Montana, and now our focus shifts to the 32 elections across the country over the next two years,” said Lieutenant Governor Nuñez. “The onslaught of liberal spending in the states will be challenging; however, I'm eager to start leading the RLGA efforts to ensure Republicans have the support they need for success."
Nuñez was elected as Florida’s first Hispanic female Lieutenant Governor in 2018. She previously served as a State Representative of the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 and was named Speaker Pro Tempore from 2016 to 2018. Nuñez has worked to identify, recruit, train, and support new women candidates in states across the nation in her capacity on the RSLC’s Right Women Right Now executive committee.
RSLC President Dee Duncan said of the announcement, “The RSLC and RLGA are committed to developing the Republican leaders of tomorrow, and Lieutenant Governor Nuñez is a trailblazer and prime example of a state Republican who has a long future ahead of her in national politics. A key player in the historic success we achieved in 2020, her ability to build winning coalitions and her outreach to the Hispanic community in particular has been critical. I’m confident Lieutenant Governor Nuñez will continue to be one of our organization’s strongest assets and we are lucky to have her chairing the RLGA this cycle.”
About RLGA
