New Apportionment Data Highlights Success of Republican Policies in the States
RSLC’s 2020 Victories Prove Critical in the Fight to Stop Liberal Gerrymandering
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Census Bureau today released the new congressional apportionment totals for each state, leading to “a shift of political clout to Republican strongholds before the 2022 midterms.” Conservative states like Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, where the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), invested significant resources in 2020 to hold its majorities, picked up congressional seats. Extreme liberal bastions like California and New York, however, are experiencing a mass exodus.
“Today’s new census data makes clear that the American people are fed up with the crippling tax increases and reckless spending that we are seeing from the socialists in Democrat-controlled states like New York and California, and are embracing conservative states that are implementing policies to create jobs, keep families safe, and give children the opportunity to succeed in the classroom,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan. “It also further validates the RSLC’s 2020 strategy to focus on holding its majorities in places like Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, saving them from Democrat gerrymandering. Today’s news is a fantastic development for the future of our party from both a political and policy perspective, but we know that the fight against liberal gerrymandering is just beginning.”
While states with Republican-controlled legislatures will pick up a total of five new seats from reapportionment, states with Democrat-controlled legislatures will gain just two. The RSLC in 2020 beat back more than a half-billion dollars in total Democratic state spending to defend all 59 Republican-led legislative chambers and flip two more.
