All 42 seats in the Nevada Assembly are up for election this year, while 11 state Senate seats are up for grabs.

Democrats currently hold the power in Carson City, but some of the party’s top incumbents are considered vulnerable targets for Republicans aching to close the 13-member gap at the statehouse.

The Republican State Leadership Committee, which aims to elect down-ballot GOP officeholders across the country, is now ranking the Nevada Legislature as a "top flip opportunity" this election cycle.

The committee, which released its list of state legislative targets in March, had originally ranked Nevada as a place to "make meaningful gains" but upgraded the state as a top offensive target this week after recent polling found GOP candidates leading their Democratic opponents.

In a statement released Wednesday, RSLC President Dee Duncan said President Joe Biden's tanking approval ratings has given "state Republicans an opening to go on offense in places we normally don’t contest."

"While flipping chambers in these deep blue states will be an uphill battle," Duncan said, "we are committed to maximizing the favorable political environment by expanding our map and making Democrats sweat to defend every inch of ground they currently hold.”
