Republicans Control 57 Of The 99 State Legislative Chambers
WASHINGTON, D.C. –- The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) today announced the 2026 national legislative leadership of the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC). Despite historic Democrat spending and coordinated progressive attacks, Republicans remain the dominant governing party at the state level, controlling 57 of the nation’s 99 legislative chambers. In the most recent off-year elections, Republican legislative candidates consistently outperformed the top of the ticket, including 82 of 83 candidates in Virginia, while cutting Democrat margins in key New Jersey districts, reinforcing the RSLC’s proven model as Republicans head into 2026.
“State legislatures are the livelihood of our Republic, and Republicans continue to prove that strong organization, disciplined messaging, and authentic local leadership win elections even in the toughest environments,” said Pennsylvania Senate President Pro-Tempore and RLCC Chairwoman Kim Ward. “Holding 57 of the nation’s 99 legislative chambers reflects the trust voters place in Republican leaders to fight for affordability, public safety, and accountability. With the RLCC’s 2026 leadership in place, we are focused on protecting our majorities, stopping radical redistricting efforts, and expanding the Republican map in the elections that will shape the next decade.”
“Democrats may outraise and outspend Republicans, but our candidates consistently outperform because RLCC invests early, stays focused on local issues, and executes a disciplined ground game,” said Minnesota House Speaker and RLCC Vice Chair Lisa Demuth. “Across the country, Republican legislative candidates are competing in competitive districts by connecting with voters on the issues that matter most. This leadership team is committed to building on that proven model and helping to execute an aggressive, data-driven strategy to win in 2026.”
“Our success comes from smart, strategic investments that translate directly into votes from expanding absentee and early voting to strengthening field operations in battleground districts,” said Texas House Speaker and RLCC Finance Chair Dustin Burrows. “Even with significant spending disadvantages, Republican candidates continue to close margins and win tough races because RLCC’s resources are deployed with precision and purpose. As we head into 2026, the RLCC is prepared to scale what works, invest early, and ensure Republican candidates have the support they need to win where it matters most.”
As the RLCC navigates 2026, the committee will prioritize states where experienced legislative leadership, competitive margins, and strong voter coalitions create opportunities for sustained Republican success. With Chairwoman Kim Ward bringing firsthand experience from Harrisburg, the RLCC is well positioned to apply lessons learned in one of the nation’s most competitive legislative environments. That perspective will help guide strategic investments, candidate recruitment, and voter engagement efforts in states where control will be decided district by district.
