Senator Bill DeSteph: “[The Virginia Beach mass shooting] is a tragedy. It should never be politicized. These are the people we go to church with, and these are our neighbors. You should never politicize this.”
WASHINGTON – Aired on last night’s WAVY News 10 coverage, the news station revealed that Missy Cotter Smasal is falsifying information about the Virginia Beach mass shooting in her recent campaign commercial to gain political leverage over Republican State Senator Bill DeSteph at the expense of victims and their families.
In Smasal’s ad a survivor (who happens to be Smasal’s longtime friend) claims that she “asked Senator Bill DeSteph to do something, so this doesn’t happen again, and Senator Bill DeSteph did not meet with us.”
Here is the truth from WAVY News 10:
“What the commercial does not say is that on June 14, DeSteph emailed back to Havekost, “We would be happy to discuss this in person, should you wish to visit our office … Please feel free to call … to schedule a meeting. If there is anything we can do to assist you during this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Havekost never called, nor went to see DeSteph.“
