WASHINGTON – Following today’s announcement of Iowa House Speaker Linda Upmeyer’s retirement, Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Austin Chambers released the following statement:
“Throughout Iowa and across the country, Speaker Upmeyer is known for her spirited personality and unique ability to get the job done. We are grateful for her leadership in recruiting, supporting, and mentoring strong Republican candidates seeking to serve their communities – particularly new, Republican women candidates through our Right Women, Right Now initiative. Her leadership will be greatly missed, but we look forward to continuing our friendship in whatever her next chapter may be.”
Linda Upmeyer is Iowa’s Speaker of the House and represents the 54th District, serving since 2003. Elected by members of the Iowa House of Representatives’ Republican Majority in 2015, she became Iowa’s first female Speaker. She received her BSN from the University of Iowa and MSN from Drake University and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
