State Republicans secure 9-point improvement on district ballot
WASHINGTON – In a special election for California State Senate District 28, Republican Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez today delivered a huge victory for the Republican Party by defeating a Democrat in deep-blue California. Though final results will not be available until May 15 at 5:00 p.m. PDT, the Associated Press called the race for Melendez with 56% of the vote. The current vote totals show Republicans improving their ballot performance by 9 percentage points from 2018.
“Even in deep-blue states like California, Democrats’ socialist agenda is failing at the ballot box,” said RSLC President Austin Chambers. “Melendez’s win shows that President Trump’s America First agenda is resonating with voters, and will continue to do so across America. Our team isn’t taking anything for granted. We are adapting to the current state of our nation and with a robust vote-by-mail effort in this race, we applaud Melendez on her victory and for delivering the latest blow to Democrats in California.”
The RSLC is committed to supporting Republicans up-and-down the ballot. With a recent win in Connecticut and now California, the Party is proving that state Republicans can win anywhere. We will continue to be invested in key state races through the general election, providing resources to Republicans like June Cutter running in California’s 77th Assembly District.
