WASHINGTON – Following today’s announcement of Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai’s decision to fulfill the term of his speakership, but not seek reelection this fall, Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Austin Chambers released the following statement:
“Mike Turzai has been a transformative Speaker of the House and a tireless advocate for the people of Pennsylvania. Known for his work ethic, his intensity, and his kindness, he will be sorely missed in Harrisburg and across the commonwealth. We look forward to continuing our close working partnership with the Speaker through the end of his current term to make sure we maintain a strong Republican majority in Pennsylvania. There is no doubt that Pennsylvania is better off today because of Speaker Turzai’s service.”
Mike Turzai was unanimously elected Speaker of the House in 2015 by his House Colleagues; he is currently in his eighth term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. As a legislator, Mike has pushed hard to rein in government spending to reduce taxes on families and businesses. He quickly focused his efforts on helping hard-working families, making Pennsylvania more competitive for private-sector job creators and cutting government waste, fraud and abuse. Mike, his wife, Lidia, and their three sons, Andrew, Stephen and Matthew, live in Marshall Township, Allegheny County, and are involved in many community activities.
