WASHINGTON –Following the United States Supreme Court’s decision inVirginia House of Delegates v. Bethune-Hill, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Austin Chambers issued the following statement:
“While we are of course disappointed by the Court’s decision and deeply concerned by the power it yields to partisan attorneys general, we are prepared to win in Virginia regardless of a ruling from the Court: today changes nothing. We have candidates that can win in these districts throughout the Commonwealth, and RSLC is committed to protecting Republican majorities in both the House of Delegates and state Senate. Virginians continue to send a clear message to Richmond — they want their taxes cut, their public schools funded and protected, and their roads decongested – all priorities that Republicans have led on, while Democrats have failed to deliver because they remain engulfed in their numerous political scandals. And a Court ruling on district lines doesn’t change that – we know our clear path for growing the majority.”
About the RSLC
The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is the largest caucus of Republican state leaders in the country and the only national organization whose mission is to elect Republicans to multiple down-ballot, state-level offices. Since 2002, the RSLC has been working to elect candidates to the offices of lieutenant governor, secretary of state, secretary of agriculture, state legislator, the judiciary and other down-ticket races. State-level Republicans maintain 61 of 99 legislative chamber majorities across the country, hold 26 lieutenant governor seats, and control 28 secretaries of state offices.
