That the office of lieutenant governor has a greater success rate of its occupants becoming governor than any other local, state, or Congressional office. According to the National Lieutenant Governors Association, over the last 100 years, approximately one in every four governors first served as lieutenant governor or first in line of succession.

The Washington Examiner published an op ed by Nevada Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison entitled “Looking for the next batch of governors? You don’t have to look far.” Hutchison’s piece focused on how frequently lieutenant governors go on to serve as governors and how their experiences as lieutenant governors benefit them if they go on to other elected offices.

Candidates for Florida’s Senate District 40 participated in a debate on a local Miami tv station on Sunday. In his closing statement, Republican Jose Felix Diaz spoke about his experience in the state House working on energy and healthcare related issues as evidence that he is the most qualified candidate in the race.

Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch referenced the RSLC’s Right Women, Right Now initiative in an article focused on more women running for office in 2018. “One of the additional benefits of going through Right Women, Right Now training is frequently … they will bring in dozens of women candidates at a time,” Kleefisch remarked. “Sometimes it’s just nice to talk to someone who’s going through the exact same thing … you’re going through,” she continued.

North Dakota Republican State Senator Tom Campbell became the first Republican to declare a candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Heidi Heitkamp. In conjunction with his announcement, Campbell also released a short video highlighting his biography and his business experience as a potato farmer.
