RLGA Congratulates Kim Reynolds on Assuming the Iowa Governor’s Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 24, 2017) – The Republican Lieutenant Governors Association (RLGA), part of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), today congratulates Kim Reynolds, who assumed the role of Governor of Iowa after Terry Branstad was confirmed to serve as the United States Ambassador to China. RLGA Chairman Nevada Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison released the following statement:

“Kim Reynolds has accomplished so much in her role as lieutenant governor, and we congratulate her for assuming the Governor’s office today. During her time as lieutenant governor, Kim has helped attract more than $13.5 billion in private investment to the state, with major high-tech firms among the ones choosing to locate or expand in Iowa. We are confident that Kim will continue to expand on her mission to better the lives of all Iowans as Governor.”

Governor Reynolds has also served as Co-Chair of the Republican State Leadership Committee’s ‘Right Women, Right Now’ initiative which has helped identify, recruit and support 386 new Republican state-level office holders since the 2012 cycle. Today, she becomes Iowa’s first female governor, joining other high-ranking female Republicans from Iowa including Speaker Linda Upmeyer, Iowa’s first female Speaker of the House and the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee Vice-Chair, and US Senator Joni Ernst, a former state legislator. Reynolds joins South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster and Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey as the third Republican lieutenant governor to assume the governor’s office in 2017.

The Republican Lieutenant Governors Association (RLGA) is the only national organization committed exclusively to raising resources and assisting Republicans in their campaigns for lieutenant governor. The RLGA – a caucus within the Republican State Leadership Committee – provides lieutenant governors and candidates with financial support and assists with strategic campaign advice. Across the nation, Republican lieutenant governors perform critical tasks that include presiding over legislative chambers, overseeing small business recruitment, heading economic development, administering fair elections, maintaining homeland security and leading disaster recovery. Nevada Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison serves as the RLGA’s Chair, with North Carolina’s Lt. Governor Dan Forest as Vice-Chair.
