WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee congratulates Eric Berthel on his special election victory in Connecticut Senate District 32, maintaining a tie in the chamber and reinforcing the largest Republican caucus in the state legislature since 1986. The RLCC also congratulates Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano for his efforts to strengthen the Republican caucus. Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Matt Walter issued the following statement on behalf of the RLCC:
“Although Democrats pulled out all the stops and funneled over $50,000 into this campaign late in the race, voters in Senate District 32 again voiced their support for conservative ideals and solutions by electing Eric Berthel this evening. This victory preserves a critical tie in the chamber, allowing Senate Republicans to serve as a counterbalance to Democrat Governor Malloy and his allies in the legislature, and setting a positive tone for 2018 — when the GOP will have a chance to flip the Senate for the first time since 1996.
“Struggling with a decimated bench in the states, Democrats have continued to fall back on retread candidates and failed political agendas, including in today’s special election. We are thrilled to see Republicans continue to win in even deep-blue states like Connecticut by supporting superior candidates who can run on a positive record of proven Republican leadership in the states. Congratulations to Senator-elect Berthel and the entire Senate Republican Caucus on an impressive and critical win tonight!”
